KUNINGAN (MASS) – Bullying is rampant nowadays. This can happen anywhere and at any time. Of course, you need to understand and be aware of yourself about bullying. The perpetrator of bullying can be anyone, from people we don’t know to even people close to us. Bullying can have profound negative effects on individuals’ physical and mental health, and it can also have long-term consequences, such as low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and even suicide. While bullying is a complex issue that cannot be easily explained or addressed, it is important to acknowledge and address it in order to create safer and more supportive environments for everyone. Cases of bullying that are always heard are among students at school and also in the home environment, such as in the family, it also often happens.
This bullying behavior then develops from a variety of complex environmental factors, such as in a family environment that often punishes their children excessively or a hostile home situation. Children develop bullying behavior based on observing conflicts with their parents and then duplicating it with their friends. Bullying is generated by one or more social environmental factors. Those who live in poverty will do anything to fulfill their needs, so it is not surprising that extortion between students is often in the school environment. The increasing development of technology also provides access to communicate and convey information, television shows and print media can also shape bullying behavior patterns in terms of the shows they show. Children imitate the scenes of the movies they watch, generally they imitate their movements and words.
We take an example in schools that has become a global problem, one of which is that schools often ignore the existence of bullying, and schools often provide negative input to their students, for example, nonconstructive punishment that fails to foster a sense of respect and cooperation between fellow classmates. Because most school-age children are more prone to becoming victims of bullying. Peer group factors also influence the existence of bullying, even though they feel uncomfortable with the behavior, some children bully the others to prove that they fit in a specific social group.
Bullying has a negative effect on character development, both for the victim and the perpetrator. Because the bully has an effect on the victim, bullying leads to the victim to feel pressure. Bullying adds to trauma, decreased self-confidence, physical and psychological trauma, and a fear of set to school, isolation, and suicidal tendencies. In addition, if left unchecked, bullies will learn that there is no risk for them to be violent or threaten other children. As adults, the perpetrators have the potential to become criminal offenders and will have problems in social functioning.
Ways that can be done to prevent and overcome the problem of bullying by several parties around the victim, one of which is from the school. Schools must apply very strict sanctions related to bullying so that every student will think twice if they are going to commit bullying. On the other hand, in the case that the school can not solve the bullying problem, authorities can report the case of bullying to the proper authorities. To anticipate bullying behavior toward children, parents and teachers need to get parenting education. It requires understanding of the unique characteristics of each child and how to communicate well with children. Children must also be taught the ability to defend themselves so that, in the case that they become the victims of bullying, they do not just sit silent.
In conclusion, bullying is a deliberate and repeated behavior using physical or psychological harm to a person. Bullying has become prevalent in all continents lately, especially in schools. because most children are susceptible to being victims of bullying. Children who are involved in bullying do it for a number of factors, such as family as well as school. peer group, social environment, television shows and print media. Bullying can have a negative effect, both on the victims and the perpetrators themselves in their character development. Efforts can be made to prevent and overcome the problem of bullying by several parties, one of which is the school, as well as from the victim himself.
